Performance Model
ChiME offers after-school ensemble-based programs to individuals at our West Town location and to partner schools (at their locations). All versions of the after-school curriculum focus on bringing more joy into students' lives through engaging musical experiences and on developing leadership skills within a team. Depending on the interest and needs of participants, we offer various options for after-school engagement:

After-School Music at West Town
ChiME Pops Ensemble
Ages; 10-18
ChiME Pops Ensemble is a new and exciting offering for students currently enrolled in private lessons (at ChiME and elsewhere) looking to apply the skills they are learning to a group performance setting. This program emphasizes the importance of preparation and collaboration through music by allowing students to:
With an emphasis on popular music, students will be given the opportunity to give creative input during weekly rehearsals while also learning more about the music they hear every day. Participants will be encouraged to explore new techniques on their instruments as they collaborate with the instructor and each other, leading up to a final performance at the Student Recital on Saturday, May 11 at 2pm, open to friends and family! |
where doES the Pops Ensemble TAKE place?
ChiME Pops Ensemble will take place in person at ChiME’s West Town facility at 1148 W. Chicago Ave. what will students learn?

The Pops Ensemble offers the best experience when students are present for the entire duration of the program, but it's possible to join a week or two after the session begins. what do children do?
Students use their individual instruments and other percussion instruments to actively make music during rehearsals. They learn music by a combination of reading, ear, and rote (with traditional and symbolic visual representation of music notation). The session culminates in a final performance. What materials are needed for participation?
Students bring the instruments they study to use during the program. Pianos and percussion instruments will be provided by and stored at ChiME. |

All after-school programs at Partner Schools focus on developing self-effectiveness, leadership, and relationship building skills through music. Students will:
ChiME Time Rhythm & Rhyme
For grades K-2
The ChiME Time Rhythm & Rhyme curriculum engages younger elementary students through songs, games, dances, and musical movement activities. This program focuses on developing communication, self-expression, self-confidence, and social engagement through music. Objectives also include foundational music skills such as steady beat, rhythm, dynamics, and singing. ChiME TiME Choir
For grades 3-8
For schools that have a strong culture of or interest in vocal music, ChiME offers a choir experience. Students learn the fundamentals of musicianship, including beat, rhythm, dynamics, and expression alongside vocal production skills, such as breath support, pitch-matching, and diction. |
ChiME Time Drumline
For grades 3-8
Buckets, bass drums, snare drums, and hand-held percussion are at the core of this high-energy, collaboration-centered program. Melodic instruments are often added, depending on the individual skills of participating student. For schools where students receive classroom music instruction during the school day, ChiME Time Drumline creates opportunities for a deeper level of engagement and learning.
