Group Music Therapy

Picture
ChiME’s Group Music Therapy sessions are designed to provide an opportunity for children to experience successful participation in a group setting with similar-aged peers. We offer group Music Therapy to children from birth to 7 years, presenting with a disability or disorder, including but not limited to developmental, neurological, motor, speech, and behavioral disorders.

ChiME’s Music Therapists use adapted musical interventions as vehicles for targeting non-musical goals, including social, language, cognitive, sensory, and physical goals. Families will be provided an initial assessment form upon registering for Group Music Therapy sessions. Music Therapist will work with each family to develop personalized, measurable goals and objectives for each child. Caregivers are expected to participate in sessions for all children under 5; for children 5-7 years old, caregivers will be asked to remain outside the group room for the duration of the session. All Group Music Therapy sessions will be 45 minutes long and will last for 9 weeks, with the 9th week serving as a consultation with the caregiver, at which the family will be provided with an assessment summary of the child’s progress on his/her goals and objectives throughout the 9 weeks.
