Teaching Artist, Piano, Musicianship
Sonia brings to her teaching an eclectic background as a pianist, classroom music educator, English language teacher, Peace Corps volunteer, and world traveler. She earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Piano Performance and a Master’s Degree in Music Education, both from the Boston Conservatory. She also holds Orff Level I Certification and completed additional studies in Dalcroze Eurhythmics, Ewe drumming (Ghana), and Teaching English as a Foreign Language.
Sonia’s teaching experience includes general music in Kindergarten through 6th grade in the Westborough Public Schools in Westborough, Massachusetts, and private piano lessons in the greater Boston area. She has performed as soloist, chamber musician, and collaborative pianist at the Boston Conservatory, Newton Free Library, and other venues in Boston. As a Peace Corps Volunteer in Rwanda, she taught English language classes for both primary and secondary students, trained her counterpart teachers in student-centered teaching methodologies, and conducted malaria-prevention, hygiene, and nutrition classes in her community. In addition to music and learning about cultures, she enjoys hiking, rock climbing, and spending time with her two-year-old niece
