Darius Hampton
Teaching Artist, Saxophone Darius Hampton is one of the most versatile professionals on the scene in Chicago. He studied the saxophone with Charles “Chip” McNeill and Ron Bridgewater while earning his MM in jazz studies at the University of Illinois. He was the Education Director for the Chicago Jazz Ensemble and developed outreach programs at Columbia College Chicago. He is currently an ensemble director within Northwestern University Jazz Studies. He partners with the Jazz Institute of Chicago for the Straight Ahead Jazz Exchange and the Jazz Masters Residency Program. He has worked on musical projects with artists such as Jon Faddis, Slide Hampton, Wycliffe Gordon, Dana Hall, Frank Foster, Garnett Brown, Miguel Zenon, Etienne Charles and many others. As a performer, he is active in large ensembles — currently the South Side Big Band and Orquesta Sabor Latino — and small ensembles across the musical spectrum, working live and in-studio, including leading his own project entitled Hear Me. |
