where doES The Workshop TAKE place?
This workshop will take place in-person at ChiME’s West Town facility at 1148 W. Chicago Ave.
Is any experience needed for the Workshop?
Enrollees should have at least a beginning-intermediate understanding of their instrument.
WHAT MATERIALS ARE NEEDED?
ChiME will provide all electric instruments and equipment for the workshop. Participants are welcome to bring their own electric or acoustic instruments if they desire, but itis not required.
what activities do
Participants Do?
Throughout the workshop students will explore various electric instruments in an ensemble setting. Students will experiment with creating various sounds both individually and as a group.
What will Participants learn?
​Participants will:
  • learn the differences between modern acoustic stringed instruments and electric stringed instruments
  • explore the wide range of possible sounds that are achievable using electric instruments 
  • Use musical creativity and improvisation by mixing and creating acoustic and electronic sounds, utilizing a looper
  • learn various fingering and bowing techniques used to play electric instruments
  • Connect with string players in your community while learning a new skill!
What If I have to miss a day of the Workshop?
If we know about the absence ahead of time, the instructor might be able to set up remote access or make a recording of the key parts of the day. If not, we will make sure to catch the student up with all day’s work the next time they can join the camp. ​
Come learn new and exciting techniques on electric stringed instruments!

Students will have the opportunity to try 5-string, 6-string, and 8-string electric instruments, as well as a six-channel looper and an endless variety of effects. These instruments are very similar to acoustic stringed instruments and will introduce you to new sounds that you will be able to explore in great depth throughout the workshop.
