Young violinists prepare to begin a piece of music together

A weekly group class is required for Suzuki violin students. The class aims to integrate fundamental musicianship concepts into instrument study, providing a well-rounded musical education. It offers a wonderful opportunity to work and play with other students in a setting that develops the essential skills of listening, communication, and collaboration. The class prepares students for future orchestral and chamber music opportunities. It also teaches social skills and provides a strong community to students who might otherwise feel isolated in their daily practice on a solo instrument. Students are placed in groups by the private lesson teacher, according to level.
Note: Suzuki Violin Group Classes are an addition to private lessons. All students must be enrolled in private lessons.

FRequently Asked questions

who should enroll in these classes?
Students who are taking private lessons on violin are strongly encouraged to be enrolled in group class. If you want to be part of this class, you also need to register for private lessons.
Can I enroll in suzuki group if I take private lessons elsewhere?
ChiME's mission is to provide access to great music experiences. Students taking lessons outside of ChiME are accepted into ChiME group classes if ChiME teaching artists determine it would be a good fit. We will review each case individually and always keep the student's best interest in mind.
What do students learn in class?
The objectives of Suzuki Violin Group Classes are for students to:
  • further develop instrumental technique
  • gain ensemble and collaboration skills
  • develop musicianship skills and integrate them into instrument playing
  • support and motivate each other
  • build relationships with other students in the department
