Help Chicago's children live a
Better Life through Music

At the onset of the year we began developing a new program at ChiME called “One Beat,” funded by our friends at the Ralla Klepak Foundation for the Performing Arts. The purpose of “One Beat” is to bring children with diverse abilities and from different cultural and economic backgrounds together where they will learn to celebrate diversity. We had hoped to share the pilot of this new program at our annual gala in May, but the arrival of the pandemic forced us to cancel the gala and delay the development of the program.

Despite the pandemic we continued to deliver programming to nearly all of our students through the remainder of the school year. As the school year comes to a close, we are refocusing on our priority to help future generations celebrate and value our differences. ChiME is committed to advancing diversity, equity, and inclusivity in all of our programs and operations. We have devoted additional resources to making curricular and systemic change while also striving to diversify our board of directors and staff.  This summer we will begin hosting discussion groups with our employees, board of directors, and members of the community to increase our knowledge and understanding of our role and responsibility in the movement. In the fall of 2020, we will begin offering the “One Beat” ensemble to children throughout the city. Through the program children will learn to play the instrument of their choice within a team environment consisting of peers of different abilities and from different races, cultural, and economic backgrounds. In recent days we have adapted the curriculum to place even greater emphasis on educating children about the value of diversity and equity.

Although we were not able to gather together in person at our gala this year, we are hopeful that you will consider support of ChiME. As we move forward with a renewed emphasis and passion on celebrating diversity through our programs, we need your help more than ever. Will you please consider a donation to support our continued work to help the children of Chicago live better lives through music?
