ChiME Time Drumline

Picture
Buckets, bass drums, snare drums, and hand-held percussion are at the core of this high-energy, collaboration-centered program for students in grades 3-8. The ChiME Time Drumline program focuses on developing self-effectiveness, leadership, and relationship building skills through music. Students will:
  • discover and nurture the joy of making music.
  • improve their teamwork skills.
  • learn, rehearse, and perform culturally relevant, engaging music to which they can relate.
  • explore their creativity and develop ways to express. themselves through instruments.
  • reflect on life skills learned through music practice.
  • foster strong presentation skills.
This program is offered to individuals at our West Town location and to partner schools (at their locations). It is available both as an after school activity during the school year and as a camp during the summer.
  • INDIVIDUALS:  use the registration links below to sign up for current classes and camps.
  • PARTNER SCHOOLS:  please contact Gosia Bagley (gbagley@chimemusic.org) for more information on objectives, activities, pricing, and scheduling.

where doES DRUMLINE TAKE place?
The camps and classes listed on this pages will take place in person at ChiME’s West Town facility at 1148 W. Chicago Ave.
what will students learn?
Students will:
  • develop an awareness and appreciation of leadership and self-effectiveness skills.
  • increase their level of self-effectiveness, including in the areas of prioritizing, planning, time management, and accountability.
  • demonstrate increased leadership by fulfilling their roles and responsibilities within the ensemble and becoming role models to younger peers.
  • gain instrumental skills.
  • polish several musical selections on their assigned instruments for a performance as an ensemble.

CAn I enroll at any time?
Drumline summer camps offer the best experience when students are present for the entire duration of the camp. Fall and Spring classes are more flexible and it's possible to join later in the session.
what do children do?
Students use bucket drums, bass drums, snare drums, shakers, tambourines, and other small percussion instruments to actively make music during rehearsals. They learn music by ear and rote (with traditional and symbolic visual representation of music notation). Each session (even summer camps!) culminates in a final performance.
What materials are needed for participation?
Students don't need any materials to attend. Instruments used during the program will be provided by and stored at ChiME. Camp participants should bring their own NUT-FREE lunch from home.
